Robert (Bob) W. Scheld, 97, of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away surrounded by his loving family January 27, 2018. Bob was born in New Haven, CT on July 18, 1920 to the late William and Elsa Scheld. He was a proud veteran who served honorably in the United States Marines.

He joined the Marines at the age of 19. He married his High School sweetheart, Alice Waller on October 18, 1941. He spent two years overseas during WWII. After his discharge from the Marines, Bob entered into the Insurance business where he held executive positions in Hartford, CT. He became the head Comptroller of Security Insurance Company, Hartford, CT before moving to Ormond Beach in 1960 with his family. In 1961 he and his partner, Wallace Burt, formed Burt & Scheld, Inc., a Re-Insurance Corporation. In addition, Bob formed and developed Burt & Scheld Insurance Agency. For the past 57 years Burt & Scheld has been held in high regard by their peers. Bob served as Commodore of The Halifax River Yacht Club and was a member of Oceanside Country Club, the Rotary, the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge. Bob played the banjo and he and Alice played in the Jug Band on Friday nights at Billy’s Tap Room. Bob was known for his fun and free spirit. He loved to dance and travel. Bob loved boating with his family, fishing and duck hunting. Bob loved the outdoors. Bob owned 3 horses and enjoyed barrel racing, golfing and skiing. Bob never met a stranger. He was a kind, gentle man with a heart of gold. Bob will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. Bob is preceded in death by his loving wife Alice of 71 years who passed away January 11, 2013, brother, Wilmer and two sisters Elsa and Dorothy. He is survived by his daughters, Gail Sikorski, husband Don and Cheryl Nicholson, husband Rick; grandchildren, Donnie Sikorski (Shilo), Greg Sikorski (Vilma), Kristina Redd (Jason) and Steven Nicholson. Also left to cherish his memory are nine great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He also leaves behind sister-in-law Marion Gauvin, several nieces and many loving friends. A Memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 336 S Halifax Dr, Ormond Beach, FL 32176 at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3rd. Inurnment and U.S. Marine honors will be rendered following services at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Rd., Ormond Beach, FL.
